Estate Planning in the Digital Age

Estate planning has become more complicated in this digital age; there is more than just physical property that needs to be dealt after death. What happens your digital assets after your death can affect your loved ones emotionally as well as financially.

Take a moment to think: how many online accounts do you have? It is often difficult, if not impossible, to gain access to a deceased person’s online accounts (for example, Facebook and Google) without that person’s username and password. Other online services, including Netflix and Amazon, charge credit cards or withdraw money directly each month. It is important to keep an updated list of usernames and passwords for all your digital assets (including any digital banking/bill payment) ready for the administrator of your will.

Our attorneys can walk you through a step-by-step estate planning process to make sure all of your physical and digital assets are in order. For help, call John Leonard, Keith Leonard, or Heidi Anderson at (215) 567-1530.
