Leonard Sciolla Attorneys Win $20.5 Million Recovery For Paralyzed Philadelphia Sheriff Deputy

Attorneys Michael Tinari and Christopher Fleming, Partners in the Philadelphia-based law firm of Leonard Sciolla, LLP, won a $20.5 million recovery for a client against the largest elevator corporations in the world. The client, a sergeant in the Philadelphia Sheriff’s office, was paralyzed in a 2016 elevator crash inside the Criminal Justice Center at 13th and Filbert Streets in Philadelphia.

“The client is satisfied that the matter is over. The recovery will take care of his substantial future medical costs and living needs,” said lead attorney Michael Tinari. The client, 51, is unable to walk and uses a wheelchair. “He is stoic and hopeful,” Tinari added.

A further outcome of the case was the installation of enhanced safety systems in the elevators of the Criminal Justice Center building.

“Obtaining just compensation for the injured and improved safety is whatLeonard Sciolla is all about,” added Managing Partner John J. Leonard.
