PHRC Increases LGBT Protections

The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) will now accept complaints from those who feel that they were discriminated against as a result of their sexual orientation and gender identity. The PHRC is a state organization that investigates discrimination complaints in housing, education, and employment. Previously, the PHRC would not investigate discrimination complaints relating to sexual orientation or gender identity. But now, the inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity on its list of protected groups means that people can file complaints if they feel they are being discriminated against related to sex assigned at birth, sexual orientation, transgender identity, gender transition, gender identity, and/or gender expression.

Our attorneys have extensive experience filing discrimination claims with the PHRC, EEOC (the federal agency akin to the PHRC), and local courts. If you have been discriminated against at work on the basis of race, sex, religion, national origin, ethnicity, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status, or socioeconomic status, contact John Leonard or Heidi Anderson at (215) 567-1530.
